LEADING politicians are amongst speakers at the first ever Boobstock event.

Organisers claim the Glasgow showcase on breastfeeding will be the first of its kind.

Alison Thewliss MP, who chairs Westminster’s all-party parliamentary group on breastfeeding, will address the audience.

Elaine Smith MSP, who introduced the bill to make discrimination against breastfeeding in public illegal, will also speak at the non-profit event at Glasgow Caledonian University on September 2.

Perth underwear brand Molke will be amongst clothing companies participating in a fashion show featuring outfits suitable for nursing mothers.

Advice for parents, a pamper parlour and taster fitness classes are also planned.

Any profits will be donated to One Milk Bank for Scotland and the Best Beginnings charity.

Earlier this summer the Scottish Government announced an additional

£2 million investment to boost breastfeeding rates.

The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.

But according to official figures, fewer than half of Scottish infants are breastfed by the age of six weeks.

Younger mothers and women from the most deprived communities are less likely to have either breastfed or expressed milk for their children.

Boobstock organiser Fiona Tarantino Poliri said: “What is categorically known in the UK is that a lack of education and support is responsible for our poor breastfeeding rates and consequently babies and families are suffering.”
