The protest against Historic Environment Scotland that was due to take place on Princes Street in Edinburgh before tomorrow's march for independence has been called OFF.

The organisers have confirmed to The National that the Princes Street protest, which hundreds of people had said they would join, will not be going ahead. It had been planned to demonstrate against the decisions of Historic Environment Scotland to ban the independence rally from Holyrood Park and ban the 500 mile indy walkers from Stirling Castle car park.

There had been criticism of the protest across the Yes movement after The National reported the matter.

One of the organisers told The National: "We have accomplished what we set out to do, which was to highlight the actions of Historic Environment Scotland and their 'no politics' policy, so there is no need for the protest now and everyone can focus on the march.

"We will keep the pressure on Historic Environment Scotland until they change their policy which we believe is illegal."

The facebook page which was responsible for co-ordinating the protest has been taken down.

The All Under One Banner (AUOB) march will be going ahead – as The National has consistently reported – at 1pm from Johnston Terrace down the Royal Mile, with upwards of 35,000 people due to take part.

The after-march rally in Holyrood Park is still in the balance – AUOB are meeting Edinburgh Council, Police Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland later this morning to discuss their concerns should the rally stay banned.

If it is banned, Yes activists are planning a series of 'events' in Holyrood Park after the march.

The National will report the outcome of the meeting later.
