THE Glasgow School of Art and the student’s association’s much-loved Vic Bar will re-open their doors to students and the general public on Monday, October 22, following the second fire at the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh Building in June.
“The period of closure was, and continues to be, an ongoing test of the resilience of our students, staff and wider community,” states the announcement.
“The re-opening of the Art School, particularly to our student community, hopefully will feel like introducing an element of normality back into life at the Glasgow School of Art,” says Harry Gould, president of the students’ association. “As well as students, we really want to be able to provide a lively, open and welcoming space for the local residents, businesses and surrounding communities, who have and still face challenges relating to the fire.”
Following the re-opening of The Vic, GarnetHELL, the Art School’s Hallowe’en club night, is on Friday, October 26, with acts including Dora-Diamant and Dustina from Paris, Tokyo’s Chika and Junglehussi and Plantainchipps from Glasgow.
Look out in the coming days for a full listings announcement of more club nights and live shows, including a takeover by the NUMBERS label and performances from Beak and David August.
Meanwhile, the team at the CCA, the multi-arts venue and home of several national arts organisations, hope to soon have an update regarding their re-opening.
They are continuing to work towards Monday, October 15, but say “this is dependent on both weather and the technical progress being made by the GSA contractors”.
