A DIOCESE in the US has apologised after footage emerged of students from a Catholic boys’ high school mocking Native Americans outside the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.

The video features a young man intimidating Nathan Philips, a 64-year-old Native American man singing and playing a drum, while other students wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and shirts surrounded them.

The groups were brought together by The Indigenous Peoples March coinciding with the March for Life which drew thousands of anti-abortion protesters.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School released a joint statement apologising to Phillips, saying an investigation is taking place and they will take appropriate action.

The statement continued: “This behaviour is opposed to the church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.”

In response to the students saying “build that wall,” Philips, an Omaha elder and Vietnam veteran, posted a video on Instagram where he said: “This is indigenous lands. We’re not supposed to have walls here. We never did.”
