CHVRCHES’ singer Lauren Mayberry is set to be the first voice of the new BBC Scotland channel.

The Glasgwegian group, which has gained global recognition for their brand of electronica pop music, will team up with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to create a new version of their hit song Miracle.

The performance, launching the channel at 7pm tomorrow, will last for just under three minutes and is “a visual celebration of contemporary Scotland” with images of Scottish people and iconic places accompanying the sequence.

The sequence, Beginning, was directed by Oscar Sansom and features 76 musicians performing on stage at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.

Ian Cook of Chvrches said: “From a musician’s point of view, getting to work with an incredible orchestra and to hear our song arranged by a really talented orchestrator – the whole thing was appealing to us on many levels.”

Cook said the band “jumped” at the chance to work on the launch event citing the “prestige” of launching a new channel.

Conductor and event organiser, Paul Campbell, promised “phenomenal visuals of modern Scotland”.
