PROTESTERS stole food from a Sainsbury's and handed it out to the Glasgow public on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 12pm, three people from This is Rigged took fruit, vegetables, bread and crisps from the supermarket on Gordon Street and handed it out to passers-by's on Buchanan street.

The group pulled a similar stunt earlier this week, when they sprayed fire extinguishers of soup at the statues of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in George Square.

The National:

The latest action comes as This Is Rigged demand supermarkets slash their prices back to what they were in March 2021.

The group is also demanding that the Scottish Government install a community food hub for every 500 households across the country, which would ensure that every person has access to three nutritionally adequate meals a day.

Speaking on the latest action, one person from the group said:  “I think it is ridiculous that people are greedy enough to let others starve. It’s inhumane. There’s plenty of food and far too much greed.”

Another added: “I am taking this action today because I think it is unacceptable for people to go hungry, while the supermarkets profiteer off people's suffering.

The National:

"Redistributive action is needed, to show that we won't take the government and supermarkets inaction on the cost of living crisis.”

This is Rigged have vowed to escalate and continue to redistribute food and essential goods until their new demands are met.
